I have learnt that in entering the classroom for the first time, it is important to establish the room as our sanctuary and that it is a space where it is possible to make mistakes, ask questions that may at first feel ‘silly’, and where we can have different opinions that as a group we can discuss and examine with respect and civility.

Effective feedback processes seed student autonomy and over the longer term enable students to learn independently of the feedback provider.

An important thing as a teacher is … that we keep reaching different resources in the community, local or elsewhere, so that people in the community will come to help us teach. Their life experiences are valuable for our students.

Create all possible opportunities for every student's voice to be heard, and you'll be amazed by how inspiring their input can be not only to the class but also to your course design.

A student who challenges us on what we teach is likely to remember the lesson learnt for life, than the one who passively said yes to anything we want him/her to do.

For me, the best classroom is the one that spills out beyond the lecture hall.
